To My Readers

I have been putting out magdeburgerjoe.com and rudistettner.com for three months. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. A recurring criticism of both sites is that their names are difficult to remember and to spell according to the precision demanded in typing urls.
My reasons for choosing both site names is that they are named after the birth cities of my grandmother and great uncle respectively. The site names, though difficult focus me in my writing in a manner that defies rational explanation.
I have great respect for my readership, and do not wish to alienate them with a name that is hard to remember.
Why did I choose thewinterriders.com as a site name? I ride my motorcycle the entire winter, even when the temperature is well below freezing. I enjoy the look of astonishment on the face of motorists encased in metallic bubbles with heated interiors.
I consider the pleasures of riding a motor cycle in the winter to be a well kept secret.
To me, everything in life is not only what it is, but also a metaphor. Riding in the winter to me symbolises standing by people and principles under conditions that make it difficult to do so. It is an ideal that I struggle to uphold. I sometimes succeed at this, and sometimes not. Being a winter rider means not going with the herd. It means taking an arctic blast in the face to save my family gas money. It means that as an unencased human, it is easier to stop and smell the flowers, and unfortunately the garbage trucks as well.
When people warn me of the dangers of motorcycles I tell them, "Yes you're right, when you ride a motorcycle it raises the price of stupidity. I like to believe that the blogosphere is a new factor that politicians must now deal with that along with talk radio also raises for politicians the price of stupidity. I would like to be a part of this.
I consider Magdeburger Joe and Rudi Stettner to be winter riders in the metaphorical sense, striving to be faithful to principle, wherever it may lead and whatever the weather. With G-d's help, both they and I shall succeed in doing so.
Postings on this site will be infrequent. This is a utility site, for the convenience of you, dear readers and so that Rudi Stettner and Magdeburger Joe can keep their impractical names. The main action in this small blog network will be on their sites. I hope you will visit, now and often.
